At the western end of Perry County surrounded by farm land and mountains you will find the town of Blain, PA. Where everyone knows everyone and this little town will surprise you with what all you will find. Watch out for the horse and buggies on the roads surrounding this town. You will find cabins on the many back roads of Blain and during hunting season they all come alive. Carlisle, PA is approximately 45 minutes away and the nearest major grocery store, [Karns] is approximately 30 minutes away in New Bloomfield, PA.
The second weekend in October brings many folks from far and near to [Heritage Days], which was founded in 1986. Its purpose is to demonstrate and preserve the role of antique farm equipment, vehicles, hand-craftsmanship, and the heritage of the way things were done in the “Good Old Days”. Location for [Blain Heritage Days] can be found at the [Blain Picnic Grounds], which is also home to some other events through-out the year such as: [PA Trappers Assoc.], [Perry County Amish School Auction] and [Summer Foggy Mountain Enduro Races].
[Blain Supply, LLC] is your farm and home supply store and can be found at the end of town next to the [Newport & Sherman’s Valley Railroad] depot. Over succeeding decades, the former depot served several purposes. In 1983, the [Blain Lions Club] acquired and restored the station, dedicating it in 1985 as a historical site for the community. Also next to [Blain Supply, LLC] is the [Lions Club Park] which is a small park with a pavilion and some recreational courts and playground equipment.
[Lightner’s Consign Shop] is a quaint little old store/house that you can find new or used items for sale or have a few things you no longer need drop them off for consignment. [The Bank of Landisburg] has a branch in Blain and has been a fixture in this community for years!
A must stop when going thru Blain is the [Blain Market] which is not just a grocery store, they have made to order subs/sandwiches and soft serve ice cream, shakes and sundaes. Next to the market is the [Blain Sporting Goods] for all your hunting and fishing needs as well as license, you will find this little store busy during hunting and fishing season. [Blain Hotel and Restaurant] serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. [Roberto’s Pizza & Subs] is take-out only, check hours of operation.
[Blain Elementary School] is part of the [West Perry School District]. The [Community Library of Western PA] has summer reading programs and they have fundraiser’s through-out the year to raise money for this non-profit organization.
[Blain Tire & Auto Services] is located in town and is a full-service auto repair shop. [Dupert’s Garage] is located outside of town and does inspections and general repairs as well.
[Chicano Sol LLC] is a certified organic farm. They are located on the road leading back to the [Blain Picnic Grounds] and offers a 26 week share of seasonal certified organic produce or you can buy what you need. [King’s Bakery] is closed over the winter months, but when open you will find bake goods, soups, etc. and during the summer month’s a chicken barbecue.
The District Office for the [Tuscarora State Forest] is located in Blain and the following parks: [Fowlers Hollow State Park] and [Big Spring State Park]. There are hiking, snowmobile and horseback riding trails at these locations, as well as picnic areas. [Stoltzfus Greenhouse] has all your flower and plant needs during the planting season.
[Blain Volunteer Fire Co. & Ambulance] serves the community and surround areas. They have raffle’s, sub sales, take out diners and meals through-out the year to raise money.
Churches in the Blain area are: Grace Brethren Church, Manassa Community Baptist Church, New Germantown United Methodist Church, Three Spring Church, Zion Lutheran Church, Zion United Church.
